This is one of our absolute favorites in the area, something we do at least once a year.  It is a 6 mile roundtrip hike that takes you along a portion of the Pacific Crest Trail with stunning views of the Sierra Buttes.  It tops out on the most dramatic peak in the area where you get 360 degree views south towards Castle Peak and north all the way up to Lassen on clear days.  The lookout itself is achieved by ascending some airy steps that float above open air.  They are sturdy but for people afraid of heights it can be a bit thrilling.

This is one of our favorite swimming holes and a spot we frequent a couple of times a year.  The lake has crystal clear water and is surrounded by towering peaks, it feels like it could be in the Alps.  It’s just a short 1 mile hike on a rough road (proper Jeeps sometimes drive up it but I don’t recommend this, you need a very high clearance vehicle).  There is a nice cliff jumping spot up there too for people looking for that.

This is one of the most classic bike rides in the Tahoe area.  It’s a 14 mile fast, flowy singletrack that ends in a funky, old mining town.  You need to either leave a car down in Downieville or book a shuttle to get you back to the top.

If you’re looking for a spot close to the venue to take a dip, this is a quick move from the venue to a big reservoir that has many parking areas and beaches.

This brewery has really good beers! I don’t know the full story, but it was founded to make experimental beers and techniques—and they’ve won a lot of awards..
